Regional Integration in Europe and Asia

Europe has achieved a great deal in its attempt to integrate the nation states on the continent, which enabled them to assume a strengthened influence in the international arena, to secure a stronger resilience to changing world environments, and to provide a sustained regional stability. As a late starter of regional integration, Asia has much to catch up in these regards. What have the European countries achieved in legal, political and economic aspects? How should we address the increasing worldwide tendency towards regionalism? What are the potential tensions between the multilateral order and the emerging intensified regionalism? How can they be resolved in a harmonious way? What has the world economy been doing in this regard? What are the pertinent issues surrounding the Asian regional integration? How should they be both conceptualized in theory and interpreted in practice? What lessons can be learned from European experiences? Is Europe a model or a reference for the regional integration in Asia?

These and other issues have been addressed through contributions by Asian and European scholars included in this book.
