englischThis study is the first to focus on the life and work of the Divine Word Missionary and anthropologist Georg Höltker (1895–1976) in a monograph. The work reconstructs the life of this important member of the Anthropos Institute against the background of his membership in a missionary society, interpreting the latter as a transnational network. Through this, it also casts a new light on the history of the Anthropos Institute.

The study is aimed at people interested in the history of cultural anthropology and the history of missiology. It offers insights into how knowledge was generated and popularized in Catholic missionary societies and religious communities in the 20th century.
