englischGermany’s Basic Law has been in force for seventy years; the Weimar Constitution is 100 years old. Defending and expanding fundamental rights and freedoms have characterised 100 years of radical democratic and liberal leftist politics. In light of neo-fascism and anti-Semitism, played down as ‘populism’, guaranteeing such basic rights is more important than ever. In this book, personal contributions by 63 authors and historical documents reveal that, even in these times of the Internet and (anti)social media, politics and solidarity are worth more than online petitions, populist argumentation, policies of self-interest and tactical manoeuvring from election to election. Examples such as land reform show why reform or subduing capitalism are conscionable and constitutional. The fact that provocation and (counter-) repression are part of (youth) politics is just as important in this context as corruptibility through conformity, which affects politicians of all parties, as are the ways in which it can be addressed.
