englischThe complex Gnostic teachings of antiquity and their revival and remythification in neo-Gnostic and occultist groups at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century form the core of this two-volume publication. The "Gnostic Mystery School" of the pastor E. C. H. Peithmann is described in detail. Peithmann's Gnostic Catechism from 1904/05 is reprinted as an introduction to the world of ideas of this movement and as an extraordinary document of contemporary history. In the volume Mysteries of Gnosticism, the subject matter is placed in a comprehensive context. The spiritual foundations of the mystery school were formed - both in parallels and in differences - by: Greek philosophy, ancient Gnosticism, mystery cults, Christian theosophy, alchemy, Rosicrucianism, Kabbalah, New Thought, Martinism, Gnostic churches, the life reform movement and others. Special consideration is given to "sexual mysticism" (in the sense of "androgyny" as a myth of primal man) and "sexual magic" as different and often contradictory views of a "sacred sexuality". A comparison is also made with the "Teachings of A" by Oskar R. Schlag, in particular the "Path of Gnosis" and the "Teachings of Yoga, Tantrism and Taoism".
