englisch200 years ago, the first edition of "Theodor oder des Zweiflers Weihe" (“Theodore Or The Sceptics Conversion”) by W.M. L. de Wette was published, which is still considered one of the most important theological novels of its time. On the occasion of the ne edition of de Wettes didactic “Bildungsroman”, the accompanying scholarly volume open up theological, philosophical and literary approaches to the background of its epoch and interpretation. The focus of the interdisciplinary contributions lies on the interdependencies between religion, aesthetics and individual biography in their meaning for the 'inner world' of religious life and piety in the past and present.
