Politische Kommunikation ist Kommunikation der Politik, über Politik und als Politik. Sie umfasst sowohl mediale als auch direkte Formen der Bedeutungsvermittlung. Die Forschung zur Politischen Kommunikation fragt nach den kommunikativen Aspekten der Produktion, Durchsetzung und Vermittlung kollektiv verbindlicher Entscheidungen im demokratischen Gemeinwesen. Ihr besonderes Interesse gilt öffentlichen Diskursen und politischen Meinungsbildungsprozessen.

In der Reihe „Politische Kommunikation und demokratische Öffentlichkeit“ erscheinen exzellente Forschungsarbeiten zu den Voraussetzungen, Inhalten oder Folgen politischer Kommunikation. Die Reihe ist interdisziplinär ausgerichtet und versteht sich insbesondere als ein Forum des fachlichen Diskurses von Kommunikationswissenschaft und Politikwissenschaft. Die Reihe ist offen für unterschiedliche methodische und theoretische Ansätze. Neben monographischen Arbeiten werden auch thematisch fokussierte Textsammlungen veröffentlicht.

Political communication relates to communicating policy, communication about policy and communication as a policy. It encompasses conveying meaning both directly and through forms of the media. Research on political communication examines the communicative aspects of the conception, implementation and conveyance of collectively binding decisions in democratic polities. It focuses especially on public discourse and the formation of political opinions. This series publishes excellent research studies on the prerequisites, content or consequences of political communication. It is interdisciplinary and especially aims to provide a forum for expert debate on issues related to communication and politics. It welcomes works that employ various methodological and theoretical approaches and, in addition to monographs, it publishes anthologies that focus on particular subjects.
