englischJudging from both political and academic discussions and general practices among the employed, we can conceive the organisation of working times as being scattered into heterogeneous ‘landscapes’ of working hours. Empirical evidence on employment in bigger enterprises is much more comprehensive than on practices in SMEs or among the self-employed, who often shirk conforming to existing regulations. Not least because of this, some controversies about working time policies seem almost unresolvable. Often, it is not taken into account what a difference e.g. the size of an enterprise makes when it comes to it adhering to regulation requirements. Along these lines, this anthology on the sphere of working hours in Austria seeks to not only cover areas that working time policies traditionally focus on, but also some that are rarely discussed in the political arena: apprentices, the self-employed, ‘crowdworkers’ and the working time patterns of couples.
