englischBased on the NSU’s series of terror attacks and the investigations into them, which are often perceived as inadequate, this study examines the question of the extent to which the NSU’s network should have been investigated and whether the victims of the attacks and their next of kin have a right to clarification. To this end, the jurisprudence of the ECtHR on the state's duty to investigate is examined in greater detail. Secondly, the study asks what role the right to the truth plays in the European system of human rights. When this right is compared with the duty to investigate, it becomes clear that the duty to investigate also includes a collective dimension. It is now necessary to explore the scope of the duty to investigate against this background and to review its implementation in German criminal procedure law.
