englischJustice in transnational business relations happens before arbitral panels, not state judges. Even though international commercial arbitration is an equal alternative to state courts in terms of procedural quality, it is still perceived as being elitist and hardly accessible. Indeed, statistics and studies indicate that arbitral proceedings are generally engaged when the amount at dispute is very large. On the other hand, small claims, which may involve SME, are generally not disputed before arbitral tribunals. Moreover, SME often seem not to have the necessary know-how to successfully conduct an arbitration. Still, many major arbitral institutions promote international commercial arbitration among SME with expedited procedure rules tailored to their needs.

The present book addresses the issue of access to arbitral justice. It contains an in-depth empirical case study about the sometimes complicated relation between SME and international commercial arbitration.
