Die Untersuchung verdeutlicht das Zusammenspiel zwischen den europäischen und den internationalen Bestimmungen zum Meeresumweltrecht. Analysiert werden die Beziehungen zwischen der Europäischen Union (EU) und der International Maritime Organization (IMO) im internationalen Mehrebenensystem am Beispiel der europäischen und internationalen Bestimmungen zum Schwefelgehalt von Schiffskraftstoffen und zur Begrenzung der CO2-Emissionen der Schifffahrt.
