englischExperimental practices are present in virtually all fields of society and appear in a broad variety of forms. This volume examines the assumption that experimentation provides – according to Foucault – a societal mechanism which penetrates the contemporary shaping of our knowledge-based society with its symbolic meaning, motivation for action and legitimising power. Its impact may even be stronger than that of the experimental methods restricted to the domain of scientific research. Here, case studies as well as theoretical contributions investigate the multiplicity of experimental practices under three headings. The first relates to concepts, strategies and objections concerning real world experimentation; the second explores its relevance in different domains; the third collates contributions which focus on the cultural diversity of experimental practices in urban laboratories.

»Der umfangreich ausgearbeitete Beitrag bietet darüber hinaus eine verständliche Einführung in die agentenbasierte Modellierung und illustriert, wie Informatik, Soziologie und qualitative Sozialforschung zusammengedacht werden können.«
