englischStudies about intimate partner violence (IPV) explain victimisation and perpetration with the social character of the sexes. But while in the national criminological research on IPV a person’s sex is used in place of gender, this study utilises a person’s gender to examine the link between social character and victimisation and perpetration. A sample of 14 to 25 year-old teenagers and young adolescents forms the empirical basis for the study’s quantitative analysis. Using role and action theory, the study examines to what extent gender stereotypes occur and how they affect both the victims and the perpetrators.
