englischAlong with the economical globalisation and its societal challenges towards the end of the 20th century, discussions about “global health” have emerged. Its exact definition remains woolly; however it is became clear that the European Union (EU) strives for an active role within global health governance and developed a strategy accordingly. At the same time, global health seemed like a magic bullet to address the accusations of democratic deficit and the EU was keen to involve civil society participation in its policy making process. This book will critically address this double aim: does the elevation of global health to a matter of European foreign policy leave enough space for an active involvement of the third sector?
