englischThe major issues pertaining to marine nature conservation at the borders of the European Union are addressed in this publication, including fisheries. It features legal reflections on pressing marine nature conservation issues and on sustainable management. Included are articles on fisheries and land-based pollution aspects of the Baltic Sea legal framework, the Baltic Sea marine protected areas (MPAs) as an ecologically coherent network, the legal framework governing the EU’s fisheries activities in western Africa, and fisheries conservation and management in the south east Atlantic. Additional pieces focus on the legal framework for the protection of the marine environment of the Black Sea, integrated approaches to risk mitigation, and Black Sea MPAs. The book ends with contributions on the Cartagena Convention, the role of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive in the protection of the marine environment, and an outline of existing approaches to marine resource management in Indonesia.
