englischDigital applications are becoming more and more important in the healthcare sector. This book adds to existing research by examining the practical use of eHealth in hospitals and clinics. The study uses the rehabilitation of prostate cancer patients as an example in order to illustrate the development and implementation process of eHealth applications. The ‘pelvic floor trainer’ package includes hypervideos which support patients while they are carrying out therapeutic exercises that are essential for successful rehabilitation. This development is based on theories of multimedia learning which have received little attention in the field of health communication.

In several subsequent studies, the effects of treatment involving multimedia applications and hyperstructure were examined. The evaluation focused particularly on usability, learning effects and the development of usage patterns over time. Overall, the findings confirm that hypervideo-based eHealth applications are suitable for the long-term support of patients.
