englischThis Festschrift in honour of Joachim Jens Hesse, one of his generation’s most important and influential political and administrative scientists, compiles an illustrious group of scholars (in law, economics and the social sciences) for an analysis of the prevailing and still precarious relationship between “Nationalstaat und Europäischer Union”. In 20 contributions, the topic is being systematically discussed, paving the way towards options in coping with the multiple domestic and European crises. The book is divided into four chapters: historical approaches; crises and their consequences; institutions, actors and policies; options and courses of action. Most contributions were first presented at a colloquium entitled “Nation State and the European Union”, held in honour of Joachim Jens Hesse at Schloss Leopoldskron in Salzburg.

With contributions by:

Werner Abelshauser, Anthony B. Atkinson, László Csaba, Udo Di Fabio, Horst Dreier, Friedrich Wilhelm Graf, Peter M. Huber, Harold James, Peter Graf Kielmansegg, Jan-Erik Lane, Dieter Langewiesche, Jörn Leonhard, Stefan Moog, Bernd Raffelhüschen, Fritz W. Scharpf, Manfred G. Schmidt, Frank Schorkopf, Brendan Simms, Uwe Wagschal, Joachim Wieland und Andreas Wirsching.

»Der Band bietet eine höchst anregende Lektüre, die nicht zuletzt den unterschiedlichen geschichts-, rechts- und politikwissenschaftlichen Zugriffen auf das Problem des Nationalstaats in der EU geschuldet ist.«
