englischIt is obvious, that since the introduction of the official category “people with a migration background”, almost every fifth person in Germany themselves or a parent has cross-border migration experience. What are the implications? What about their opportunities in political participation? Is it only migration background, or is gender also an important factor to be examined in this context?
The volume provides new results on this issue and takes an intersectional perspective. Quantitative and qualitative results are presented on political participation and representation of migrants in Germany. Barriers and opportunities on political participation are analysed and discussed in reference to the municipal level. The focus is on city councils, councils of foreigners, respectively integration councils. The questions to be asked and examined will be about the causes and consequences of representation deficiencies, political socialization and career opportunities, and also about ways of equal political participation.
Seit der Einführung der amtlichen Kategorie „Menschen mit Migrationshintergrund“ ist klar, dass fast jeder Fünfte in Deutschland selbst oder ein Elternteil grenzüberschreitende Migrationserfahrungen hat. Was folgt daraus? Wie steht es um die politischen Teilhabechancen dieser Personen? Spielt nicht nur Migration, sondern auch das Geschlecht eine Rolle?
Der Band liefert hierzu neue Befunde und geht dabei von einer intersektionalen Perspektive aus. Vorgestellt werden quantitative und qualitative Forschungsergebnisse zur politischen Partizipation und Repräsentation von Migrant_innen in Deutschland. Analysiert und diskutiert werden Barrieren und Chancen politischer Teilhabe mit Blick auf die kommunale Ebene. Im Fokus stehen Stadtparlamente, Ausländerbeiräte bzw. Integrationsräte. Gefragt wird nach den Ursachen und Folgen von Repräsentationsdefiziten, politischer Sozialisation und Karrierechancen sowie Wegen gleichberechtigter politischer Partizipation.
