englischRights holders increasingly seek to involve private market players – i.e. intermediaries such as YouTube, Facebook and Google – to curb and prevent (copyright) infringements on the Internet. The study addresses the causes, the factual and legal premises as well as the implications of this "private copyright enforcement" and points out the possibilities and limits of involving private market players in law enforcement. In addition, the study analyzes and evaluates the possibilities for further development and improvement from a regulatory perspective, also and especially against the background of current legislative developments.
