englischThis book, which is written in Bulgarian, conveys both basic and in-depth information about EU law: its constitutional foundations, organs, the basic rights it guarantees and its Member States’ relations to both each other and countries outside the EU. This study draws predominantly on German-speaking research literature and is easy to understand, which consequently makes it suitable for those who do not have a legal background.

The author examines both the German and Bulgarian versions of the EU’s treaties and the European Charter of Fundamental Rights in order to point out interesting and significant differences between them. When discussing issues relating to EU law, she often identifies references to both the Bulgarian constitution and Germany’s ‘Basic Law’. She also takes constitutional reality into account.

Maria Decheva gained a doctorate in law at the Humboldt University in Berlin (HUB). She has been awarded a research scholarship to study at the DFG’s (Germany’s central self-governing research funding body) graduate college and a postdoctoral scholarship by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation. She has also worked at the Walter Hallstein Institute at the HUB.
