englischWhen and under which conditions did German and British government policies differ during the global financial crisis? This study addresses this question in the course of a comparative empirical analysis of the period from 2007 to 2012, using the banking sector and the automotive industry as examples. It explains similarities and differences between the two countries in terms of specific sectoral interests, societal ideas and national institutions, as well as voters' awareness of certain problems. The study uses a most different case design, and its results show that the influence of ideas tends to increase with increasing problem awareness compared to interests, while institutions continue to provide the framework for action.
