englischThe distinctive changes in the epistemological foundations and socio-political orders around and after 1900 have also become anchored and assumed a prominent place above all in German history studies. The stimulus triggered by these changes, which can be traced back to both modern industry and the legacy of German idealism, continued to exert an effect until well into the 20th century. In its own way, it has influenced thinking on history, the state and society to date. The protagonists addressed in this book reveal a kaleidoscope of different approaches, guiding principles and questions which cannot be reduced to one common denominator and especially not to one ‘German Sonderweg’.
