The development of a transnational public sphere and transnational communication by transnational players and networks can contribute to the creation of such an order. More than ever before, civil society organisations, the epistemic community and lobby groups are playing a decisive role in how the global economy and world politics are shaped. Together with states and international organisations, they are establishing norms and setting new standards. This book endeavours to make their attempts to establish a civilised world order plausible.
In unserer unfriedlichen, von militärischen Konflikten, ökonomischer Krise, ökologischen Gefährdungen, Arbeitsplatzbedrohung, persönlicher Aggressivität und zunehmendem Populismus bedrohten Welt ist eine Zivilisierung der Weltordnung dringend zu wünschen. Zur Zivilisierung der Weltordnung tragen die Entwicklung einer transnationalen Öffentlichkeit und transnationaler Kommunikation durch transnationale Akteure und Netzwerke bei. Zivilgesellschaftliche Organisationen, die „epistemic community“ und Lobbygruppen greifen mehr denn je in die Ausgestaltung der Weltwirtschaft und Weltpolitik ein. Sie schaffen – zusammen mit Staaten und internationalen Organisationen – neue Normen, sie setzen Standards. Der Band versucht, solche Versuche einer Zivilisierung der Weltordnung plausibel zu machen.
