englischEvery legal system is prone to mistakes, including the German criminal justice system. Despite some prominent cases of recent wrongful convictions, the general prevalence of the phenomenon in question has been poorly explored so far. To bridge this gap in research into this field, a working group convened at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Bielefeld to conduct a systematic review of the current state of research into wrongful convictions and to categorise the knowledge gained so far, the results of which are documented in this conference transcript. In pursuit of this aim, practitioners and scholars from Germany and abroad discussed the international, interdisciplinary and inter-professional dimensions of the general topic in order to provide impetus for further research into wrongful convictions.
