englischThe present volume completes the trilogy of proceedings of the first three conferences on Education Law organized by the editors. After having focused on the legal situation of teachers and students the volume at hand deals with the legal situation of parents. Their situation is characterized by tensions between the educational mandate of schools and the parents’ right of education both equally anchored in the German Con-stitution. Practical problems occurring from these tensions on a day-to-day basis are obvious and have been dealt with during the conference: What are the limits of compulsory school attendance? Can children – at their parents’ initiative - be exempted from attending certain activities at school or even be taught at home? To which extend can Youth Welfare Offices or Family Courts become involved? Speakers from academia and practice have approached those questions from different perspectives. Their considerations and results are collected in this volume.
