Details
ELPIS is not only the ancient Greek word for “hope”; as an acronym (European Legal Practice Integrated Studies) it is also the name of a wide-spread network with exchange activities embracing Law Faculties in nearly all EC- and EFTA-countries. At the end of the last millennium it undertook a major enquiry on the appearance of legal education in the European and comparative dimension. A large quantity of students and lawyers were confronted with questions concerning their personal experience of transnational legal education and recommendations for its improvement. The results together with twelve academic reports dealing with the subject and first delivered at the concluding conference of the project in Sani/Greece, are presented in this publication. They reflect the altogether rather reluctant response of professional legal education to the great challenge inherent in the ongoing process of the Europeanization of law. Further contributions view later development and actual planning of specific efforts to foster the transnational dimension of law teaching.
