National borders are the topic of political and public debate. But how are borders made relevant in everyday life? What knowledge is necessary to repeatedly produce the border as a social fact? The book develops a sociological analytical perspective informed by praxeology and discourse analysis, which addresses the supposed self-evidence of the border. The case of the German-Polish security field is used to analyse in detail the complex categorisation practices through which the border is continuously made relevant. The book thus makes an empirically substantive and conceptually innovative contribution to the field of interdisciplinary border studies.
