englischHölderlin’s reflections on form can be grasped with the concept of the ›principle of form‹, which transforms a fragment into a productive concept with reference to the ›logic of being produced‹ (Adorno). The tragic fragment, as a principle of form, divides tragedy and the tragic. In order to trace this moment of fragmentation in terms of its historical efficacy, this study examines the Empedocles project and presents two vignettes of impact: 1. Nietzsche’s fragment collection on Empedocles, which also indicates a moment of fragmentation and can be read as a precursor of Zarathustra; and 2. Szondi’s work on Hölderlin as a firm reevaluation of Hölderlin’s work as a philosophy of the tragic.
