englischThinking about time in drama has a long tradition. However, in previous studies time has primarily been considered a dramaturgical variable. This study takes on a broader approach to the concept of time, examining typical modern time phenomena and experiences, such as acceleration, apocalypticism or nostalgia, in great detail in over 20 Scandinavian dramas. The texts analysed range from Ibsen's ‘John Gabriel Borkman’ and Strindberg's ‘A Dream Play’ to contemporary plays by authors such as Line Knutzon, Sara Stridsberg and Lene Th. Teigen. The study demonstrates the high sensitivity of drama and theatre in relation to questions of time and provides a detailed overview of contemporary Scandinavian drama.
