englischThis book focuses on interpreting three poems from different creative periods in Eduard Mörike’s life: Sehnsucht (Longing), Bildniß der Geliebten (The Portrait of the Beloved) and Erinna an Sappho (Erinna to Sappho). His adaptations of ancient pagan and biblical texts, which have been overlooked to date, play a special role in this context. This book also presents new findings with regard to how these poems relate to Mörike’s biography and his work as a teacher and translator of antique poetry.
Im Zentrum des Buches steht die textnahe Interpretation dreier Gedichte aus verschiedenen Schaffensphasen Eduard Mörikes: Sehnsucht, Bildniß der Geliebten und Erinna an Sappho. Dabei spielen die bislang übersehenen Adaptationen antik-heidnischer und biblischer Texte eine besondere Rolle. Aber auch hinsichtlich der Einbettung in Mörikes Biographie und des Verhältnisses zu seiner Tätigkeit als Lehrer und als Übersetzer antiker Poesie werden neue Resultate vorgetragen.
