This volume is about Sabziwārī's engagement with the concept of the “rational soul” (the so-called nafs-i nāṭiqa). The mind-body problem and the idea of the substantial movement of the soul are also illuminated. The nafs-i nāṭiqa is a specific characteristic of human beings, and through its highest development a connection to the divine is established. For Sabziwārī, this connection is a desirable state and the proper task of every human being in this world.
