englischAt first, there is a systematic examination of Niklas Luhmann's sociological systems theory in order to comprehend the essential fundamental terms in all their facets. Building on this, the hospital is inspected more closely within a modern, functionally differentiated society, and it is analysed whether and how structures in such organisations arise as a result of society's requirements. It is based on the fact that the healthcare system has a firm place in the health policy and public discourse, but follows different rules than other areas of social life. Health is an undisputed good – possibly even the highest good in society – and is therefore outside of all ideological controversy. Numerous and highly different influences affect the institutions in which medical treatment takes place, such as from business, law, politics and science.
Zunächst erfolgt eine systematische Auseinandersetzung mit der soziologischen Systemtheorie von Niklas Luhmann, um die wesentlichen Grundbegriffe in all ihren Facetten zu erfassen. Darauf aufbauend wird das Krankenhaus innerhalb einer modernen, funktional differenzierten Gesellschaft genauer betrachtet, und es wird analysiert, ob und wie Strukturen in derartigen Organisationen in Folge von Anforderungen der Gesellschaft entstehen. Zugrunde gelegt wird, dass das Gesundheitswesen einen festen Platz im gesundheitspolitischen und öffentlichen Diskurs einnimmt, jedoch anderen Regeln folgt als andere Bereiche des gesellschaftlichen Lebens. Denn Gesundheit ist ein unumstrittenes Gut – möglicherweise sogar das höchste Gut in der Gesellschaft – und steht somit außerhalb aller ideologischen Kontroversen. Dabei wirken viele, hochgradig unterschiedliche Einflüsse auf die Institutionen ein, in denen Krankenbehandlung stattfindet, wie z. B. aus Wirtschaft, Recht, Politik und Wissenschaft.
