englischThis study deals with the life of the Wallachian voivode Vlad III. In addition to a biographical sketch, the focus is on two sources that ascribe monstrous characteristics to the prince: the "Geschicht dracole waide" and Michel Beheim's "Trakle waida". Similar strategies of othering are also found in contemporary anti-Ottoman propaganda. It is shown that such othering mechanisms are applied to Vlad in order to show him as a monstrously Ottoman antagonist figure. The aim of this approach was to advertise the ‚Türkenkampf‘ on the one hand and to stage the Hungarian king Matthias Corvinus as the conqueror of the monstrous on the other.
Die Studie befasst sich mit dem Leben des walachischen Woiwoden Vlad III. Neben einer biographischen Skizze liegt der Fokus auf zwei Quellen, die dem Fürsten monströse Eigenschaften zuschreiben: der „Geschicht dracole waide“ und Michel Beheims „Trakle waida“. Ähnliche Strategien des Othering finden sich auch in zeitgenössischer anti-osmanischer Propaganda. Es wird gezeigt, dass derartige Othering-Mechanismen auf Vlad angewendet werden, um ihn als monströs-osmanische Antagonisten-Figur zu zeichnen. Ziel dieses Vorgehens war einerseits die Werbung für den ‚Türkenkampf‘ und andererseits die Inszenierung des ungarischen Königs Matthias Corvinus als Bezwinger des Monströsen.
