englischBased on individual studies (Hamm, Treu, Fasbender) and on fundamental works (Volz, Höß), the work illuminates the humanistic and legal translations, translation strategies and the necessary networking among people with an affinity for the Reformation in the early 16th century. It provides information on the persons mentioned and honoured with dedications, the contexts of the translations and the transcriptions of all prefaces from Spalatin’s pen. The work is the first comprehensive study of the translation work of the native Franconian, who made a career in Electoral Saxony as a prince educator, secretary and confidant of Martin Luther. As such, it lays the foundation for future research on the translator Georg Spalatin.
