It provides information on the persons mentioned and honoured with dedications, the contexts of the translations and the transcriptions of all prefaces from Spalatin’s pen. The work is the first comprehensive study of the translation work of the native Franconian, who made a career in Electoral Saxony as a prince educator, secretary and confidant of Martin Luther. As such, it lays the foundation for future research on the translator Georg Spalatin.

Beruhend auf Einzelstudien (Hamm, Treu, Fasbender) und auf Grundlagenwerken (Volz, Höß) beleuchtet die Arbeit die humanistischen und juristischen Übersetzungen, die Übersetzungsstrategien und das notwendige Networking im reformationsaffinen Personenkreis des frühen 16. Jahrhunderts. Sie liefert Informationen zu den erwähnten und mit Widmungen geehrten Personen, erläutert die Entstehungsgeschichte der Übersetzungen und bietet darüber hinaus die Transkriptionen aller Vorworte aus der Feder Spalatins. Die Arbeit bildet die erste umfassende Studie zur Übersetzungstätigkeit des gebürtigen Franken und legt als solche den Grundstein für die kommende Forschung.
