englischThe historical children's drawings in the Arnscheidt Collection are a hitherto unnoticed source of evidence that impressively documents children's perceptions of historical events. The pictures originated in Kurt Arnscheidt's art lessons at Görres Gymnasium, a secondary school in Düsseldorf, and form both an artistically and historically significant collection, whose genesis occurred against the background of the war and the post-war years. In this study, the author explores the collection and selected pictures against the backdrop of historical and current research on children's drawings, (regional) history and accompanying interviews with contemporary witnesses, subsequently translating them into an educational concept.

The study was awarded the Faculty of Cultural Studies’ 2022 PhD prize at the University of Paderborn.
