An analysis of the dialogue between philosophy and social work is not only a building block in the history of social work as a profession, but also provides important impetus for the revitalisation of the interplay between these two disciplines. For social work, the focus is on the further development of the relationship between theory and practice, its function as a science that is both ethical and based on understanding, and its picture of itself and society.
Jane Addams’ Beitrag zur Entwicklung Sozialer Arbeit als Wissenschaft und Profession wurde lange nicht anerkannt. Bis heute ist ihre pragmatistisch fundierte Verschränkung von Philosophie und Sozialer Arbeit weitgehend unbeachtet geblieben.
Eine Analyse dieses Dialogs von Philosophie und Sozialer Arbeit stellt dabei nicht nur einen Baustein der Professionsgeschichte Sozialer Arbeit dar, sondern sendet wichtige Impulse für eine Neubelebung dieses Zusammenspiels beider Wissenschaften. Für Soziale Arbeit stehen dabei die Weiterentwicklung des Verhältnisses von Theorie und Praxis, ihr Wirken als ethische und verstehende Wissenschaft, sowie ihr Selbst- und Gesellschaftsverständnis im Zentrum.
