englischJane Addams' contribution to the development of social work as both a science and profession has long gone unrecognised. Until today, her pragmatist interweaving of philosophy and social work has remained largely unnoticed.
An analysis of the dialogue between philosophy and social work is not only a building block in the history of social work as a profession, but also provides important impetus for the revitalisation of the interplay between these two disciplines. For social work, the focus is on the further development of the relationship between theory and practice, its function as a science that is both ethical and based on understanding, and its picture of itself and society.
