englischThis book offers readers an extensive introduction, which not only helps in reading Plotinus’ text, but also explains the methodological choices that are the basis of the constitution and interpretation of the 24th treatise from the Enneads. The introduction is followed by the Greek text, in which the reader can find a critical apparatus in which variants of the text from Henry & Schwytzer’s book are given. These variae lectiones mainly take a clear stance on the intensive or reflective form and the gender, male or neutral, of the pronoun with which Plotinus indicates the first principle. The Italian translation follows, accompanied by explanatory notes. The translation is followed by an extensive commentary, in which the method of explaining Plotinus with Plotinus is mainly used. Although it makes critical comparisons with selected research literature, the commentary mainly uses the ancient sources and the various treatises of the Enneads, to which it constantly relates the passages of Enn. V 6 [24].
