englischThe murder of Hatun Sürücü on 7th February 2005 left behind many scars that still affect our society today. A young woman is openly executed in the street by her younger brother with three shots to the head ‘in the name of honour’ because she lived ‘like a German’. The case of Sürücü and the social and legal problems associated with it have lost none of their topicality even after almost sixteen years. This study is not limited to dogmatic points of view, but reaches far beyond that into the criminology, especially the criminal sociology, of the case. The author argues for increased preventive measures, greater consideration of intercultural understanding in legal training and mandatory ethics classes.
