englischThis study deals with the nineteenth-century Ottoman Sufi community of the Melâmiyye. It is the history of a social group for which modernization meant a crisis, which it sought to overcome with the help of trance and imaginary self-exaltation. Based on the texts of outstanding Melâmîs and the earliest critical observations, social and intellectual history are combined here in a way that reveals the general situation of Sufism in Turkey at the beginning of the Republican era.

Gülfem Alıcı, Wiener Zeitschrift für die Kunde des Morgenlandes 2020, 408-412
