englischHow do constructions of literary periods develop and what is their function? Why do some terms (as romanticism) prevail over the long term, while others disappear from the discourse at an early stage? The present work addresses these questions regarding the procedural character of ‘epochalization’, which tend to be neglected during the last decades. With the help of Bourdieu’s field theory, concepts of performativity and the ‘invisible hand’, it explores the complex mechanisms that are effective in the genesis and consolidation of contemporary claims of cultural shift. These claims result from the interpretation and evaluation of current cultural phenomena.
