englischThe ghazal is an important poetic form in Oriental classic literature which is brought into being by Islamic beliefs and philosophy. The subjects depicted in this verse form are mostly love, women and wine. Originally, the ghazal limited itself to these themes, but it gradually developed and was broadened to the point of becoming a vehicle for expressing philosophical, mystical, and moral subjects.

Each ghazal possesses its own beauty and descriptive power. This book’s main goal is to examine this verse form in the classic literature of the East from various perspectives, and to assess the reasons why it continued to be attractive. In doing so, the Arabic, Persian and Ottoman traditions are examined.
