abstract painting, he became a co‐founder of the artist group "The School of New Splendor". Under the protection of this association he succeeded in contributing to the establishment of New Realism. Koeppel develops into a humorous narrative painter who takes up Brecht's method of alienation to point out social grievances. The artist also uses "Starckdeutsche" as a means of transportation for his criticism. In the present volume, the examination of Koeppel's life's journey is rounded off by pictorial analyses and interviews.
Wie wird man Künstler und wie schafft man es, ein Leben lang Künstler zu bleiben? Der Berliner Matthias Koeppel widmet sein Leben der Malerei und dem Verfassen lyrisch-literarischer Texte. Von der abstrakten Malerei kommend, wird er zum Mitbegründer der Künstlergruppe „Die Schule der Neuen Prächtigkeit“. Im Schutz dieser Vereinigung gelingt es ihm, an der Etablierung des Neuen Realismus mitzuwirken. Koeppel entwickelt sich zu einem humorigen narrativen Maler, der Brechts Methode der Verfremdung aufgreift, um auf gesellschaftliche Missstände hinzuweisen.
