englischThe question of the human being is central to pedagogy, as all pedagogical thoughts and actions are based on anthropological ideas. At present, anthropocentric understandings of the self and the world of the human being are generally influential. This work scrutinises these both within pedagogy and in relation to Japanese ideas of what it means to be human. Following reflections by Michael Winkler, pedagogical anthropology, François Jullien, Tetsurō Watsuji, Takeo Doi and Bin Kimura, among others, an expanded horizon of thought is opened up in order to re-localise humanity in relations between self, other and world and to justify granted autonomy and being together as objectives of pedagogy.
