englischThe subject of this study is the invective of the Franconian imperial knight Ulrich von Hutten and that of his opponents. Ulrich von Hutten succeeded in becoming one of the most prominent and productive authors on the eve of the Reformation through broad transalpine connections and intensive use of invective. In the context of the age of printing, the elaborate invectives of the humanists became an omnipresent phenomenon in contemporary journalism. The Hutten source corpus in particular provides us with the appropriate material to systematically answer questions about the function, effect and form of these invectives.
