englischThis study pursues a genuinely interdisciplinary approach to Raoul Schrott's epic “Erste Erde” (2016) by looking at it from a philological, philosophical and scientific perspective. The focus is on the linguistic and phenomenological constitution of the sublime as an indication of the entanglement of aesthetics, ethics, and natural scientific knowledge. In the book, examples of the linguification of modern physical and deeper mathematical insights within the epic are analysed.
On the one hand, this leads to a new theory about the emergence of the sublime in the context of scientific knowledge and the origin of its relevance for humans. On the other hand, the approach of conveying scientific knowledge within an epic is evaluated. Eventually, this analysis illustrates the coherence of form and content within Schrott's magnum opus.
Naturwissenschaftliche Erkenntnis und das Erhabene werden selten zusammengedacht. Die vorliegende Studie ermöglicht durch die Überlappung von Philologie, Philosophie und Naturwissenschaft einen genuin interdisziplinären Zugriff auf Raoul Schrotts Epos „Erste Erde“. Dessen 2016 erschienenes Epos verarbeitet anstelle einer mythischen Kosmogonie unterschiedliche naturwissenschaftlichen Erklärungen vom Urknall bis zur Entstehung des Menschen auf der Erde.
Die Arbeit beleuchtet eine für einen Gegenwartsautor ungewöhnliche Gattung (Epos). Zudem wird eine neue Theorie des Erhabenen naturwissenschaftlicher Erkenntnis und ihrer Bedeutung für uns Menschen angedacht. Am Beispiel einiger Literarisierungen mathematischer und moderner physikalischer Zusammenhänge lässt sich der hohe Grad an Kohärenz von Form und Inhalt in Schrotts Text herausbilden. Das Erhabene erweist sich so als Indiz für die Verschränkung von Ästhetik, Ethik und Wissen.
