englischWith increased digital communication, the question arises as to what the primary reality of human existence is. With the help of the ‘aura’ concept according to Walther Benjamin, authenticity in the sense of comprehensive realness can be determined. With recourse to the phenomenological investigations by Maurice Merleau-Ponty and Hermann Schmitz, this study interprets the corporeal body within a Christian framework in line with the ideas of Karl Rahner. Bodily authenticity is thus the key to the successful design of digital technology.

Richard Ottinger (born 1989, Dr. phil.) studied German, Philosophy and Catholic Theology in Osnabrück and Münster. He is currently a consultant for international religious dialogue at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
