englischThe Treaty of Maastricht is arguably the most important European treaty to have been signed between the Treaties of Rome and Lisbon. Maastricht changed Europe’s economic community into a political union by widening the scope of the Treaty of Rome’s contents, establishing new important institutions and fostering a new relationship between the EU and its member states. Europe’s future became visible after the end of the Soviet Empire, opening the EU to the new states in Central Europe and paving the way for a unified Germany in Europe, which could then act on a par with the other important members of the EU. Today, nobody wants to undo the Treaty of Maastricht. Even those who are set to leave the EU want to keep its advantages, at least in part. This volume compiles articles by leading lawyers from now and then as well as by well-known legal scholars from four European countries.
