To a large extent, counselling is designed for participation and involvement. This is especially true in situations where people seek counselling because they are experiencing crises which they cannot or can hardly find a way out of on their own. In these emergency situations, it can easily happen that those who receive counselling attribute a kind of superiority to the counsellor. Then, it is part of a counsellor’s professionalism to constantly reflect on his or her own effectiveness. Understood in this way, counselling makes a significant contribution to individuation, autonomy and the overall development of people.

Beratung ist in hohem Maße auf Partizipation und Teilhabe hin angelegt. Das gilt besonders in Situationen, in denen Menschen Beratung aufsuchen, weil sie sich in Krisen erleben, aus denen sie allein nicht oder nur schlecht herausfinden. In diesen Notsituationen kann es leicht geschehen, dass Ratsuchende dem Berater oder der Beraterin eine Art von Übermacht zusprechen. Dann gehört es im Beratungskontext zur Fachlichkeit, die eigene Wirksamkeit permanent zu reflektieren. So verstanden leistet Beratung einen bedeutsamen Beitrag zur Individuation, Autonomie und insgesamt zur Weiterentwicklung von Menschen.
