All the presuppositions leading to the acquisition oft he citizenship as descent, manumissions and aquisitions. All kinds of conferment of the citizenship are depicted following the historical process. Above all migration played an important role in this context. All the legal and literary texts were interpreted in a completly new way and many passages from Cicero’s speaches on citizenship were translated anew. Particular attention was dedicated to the structures of the Roman state and to the award oft he universal citizenship through the Constitutio Antoniniana in the year 212 AD. The stratification of the Roman citizenship could serve as a modelt to the actual European Union.
Das Buch ist die erste vollständige Darstellung des Römischen Bürgerrechts vom Beginn der Republik bis zum Ausklang der Antike aus der Feder einer Juristin. Sämtliche Voraussetzungen, die zum Erwerb des Bürgerrechts führten, wie Abstammung, Freilassung oder Bürgerrechtsverleihungen, werden im Rahmen historischer Abläufe erläutert. Gerade Migrationsbewegungen spielten in diesem Zusammenhang eine erhebliche Rolle. Als Grundlage wurden sämtliche juristische und literarische Texte neu interpretiert sowie zahlreiche Passagen aus Ciceros Reden zum Römischen Bürgerrecht neu übersetzt. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit wurde dem Aufbau des Römischen Staates gewidmet und der universellen Bürgerrechtsverleihung durch die Constitutio Antoniniana im Jahre 212 n. Chr. Die Schichtenspezifität des Römischen Bürgerrechts könnte der heutigen EU zum Vorbild dienen.
