englischThe German army has a positive image in Germany. If you ask Germans for their personal opinion of the armed forces, the majority of them will state approvingly that they place great trust in the army and regard it as a legitimate part of society, a view which they have expressed for many years. At the same time, those questioned attribute a more critical attitude towards the armed forces to the population as a whole. Therefore, the perceived climate of public opinion differs from individual attitudes. In this study, the author explains this phenomenon of pluralistic ignorance using a media-centred investigative approach: both the so-called dual climate of opinion and the hostile media and third-person effects have influenced the aforementioned discrepancy in opinion.
Die Bundeswehr hat in Deutschland ein positives Image. Fragt man die Deutschen nach ihrer persönlichen Einstellung zu den Streitkräften, so äußert sich eine Mehrheit seit vielen Jahren anerkennend: Sie bringt der Bundeswehr großes Vertrauen entgegen und sieht sie als wichtigen legitimen Bestandteil der Gesellschaft. Gleichzeitig attestieren die Befragten den „Anderen“, der Bevölkerung insgesamt, eine kritischere Einstellung gegen über der Bundeswehr. Das wahrgenommene Meinungsklima unterscheidet sich also von der persönlichen Einstellung. Die Autorin erklärt dieses Phänomen pluralistischer Ignoranz mithilfe eines medienzentrierten Untersuchungsansatzes: Sowohl das sogenannte doppelte Meinungsklima als auch das Hostile-Media-Phänomen und die Third-Person-Wahrnehmung nehmen Einfluss auf die beobachtete Diskrepanz.
